Newsletter May 2020

2020 May Newsletter

Dear Parents and Carers,

We are looking forward to welcoming back our students for one day per week from Monday 11 May. The NSW Government suggest that approximately 25% of students should be onsite each day. As outlined last week, our plan for Phase 1 is for students to attend school one day per week (Monday – Thursday) based on their surnames, as we want to make this work for families.

Morning drop-off procedures

Social distancing of adults is a very important aspect of our school plan. Whenever possible, we ask that parents and carers do not come onto school grounds to limit the amount of touchpoints at our school. Students should be “kiss and dropped” to school after 9:15am, although teachers will be on supervision duty from 9:00am for students coming from Mimi’s or parents attending work.

For K-2 students not ready for “kiss and drop” at the car or gate, parents may accompany their children inside the playground to drop off their bags, say goodbye and then exit the school. We ask that you do not congregate in the school playground.

Students should leave their bags where they would normally line up at the end of recess and lunch.

If the weather is inclement, students will assemble under the COLA. Parents are requested not to accompany children to this area. Teachers will be on duty to assist any children who need support.

Afternoon pick-up procedures

Students in K-2 can be collected at 3:15. They will wait with their teachers until collected in the playground over a 10 minute period. Students in Years 3-6 will be released at 3:25pm and should arrange a meeting point outside the school gates or continue home independently following their normal routines.

What do students bring?

  • Water bottle
  • Fruit break, lunch and recess
  • Pencil case with standard items of pencils, pens, eraser and sharpener (including Kindergarten students to limit the sharing of items)
  • Students in Years 4-6 should bring their device to school for BYOD.

In order for this return to school to be successful, it is extremely important that we all continue to work together to help keep everyone safe.  As always, if your child is sick, has a temperature or even a sniffle, please do not send them to school. Please continue to encourage regular handwashing and the correct procedures for coughing and sneezing.

We thank you for your ongoing support and care. Please let us know if there is anything we can do to support you and your child during this time.

Winter Uniform

As the weather starts to become cooler it will be necessary to wear school jackets and jumpers.

A timely reminder to ensure all clothing is clearly labelled as it is very easy to misplace items.

Students are currently transitioning into winter uniforms by Monday 11th May.

Tell Them From Me Survey Updates

Students in years 4-6 will be able to still take part in the Tell Them From Me annual student survey. The survey provides schools with valuable feedback on what our students think about school life, how engaged they are with school and the different ways that teachers interact with them. The survey is completed on-line and is run by an independent research company. Staff in schools will not be able to identify individual students from their responses.

Students will now be able to complete their Tell Them From Me Surveys at school when they return one day a week from Week 3.

Learning From Home

Well done to all our students (and parents) in managing your online learning during this time. Following are some examples of students’ creativity at home.

Playground Updates

Equipment Upgrade

Thank you to the P&C for their financial support to fund the extension to the existing playground equipment. The money raised by the community from the Colour Dash in 2018 has been used to offset the purchase and installation cost of three additional sections to the equipment.

The equipment will be in use as soon as we have approval under the present guidelines regarding play equipment.

Thank you to Mrs Joyce Kable who once again kindly donated the wreath that was laid at the Cenotaph on ANZAC Day.
